OJIBWAY/METIS PAD SADDLE

This saddle pad is one I made some time ago when my work was featured in a traveling museum show titled "Old And New Masterpieces". It was a great show to participate in, and I felt honored to have my work displayed side by side with historical artwork :-). I actually posted this here some time ago, but found that I have in error deleted some of my postings and will put that work back up. And I need a filler while I work on new projects anyway.

This saddle is made out of smoked brain tanned moose hide, and is beaded in both antique and carefully chosen modern "cut" or faceted beads. The pad underneath is a hair on buffalo hide. It is stuffed with buffalo wool. The stirrups are rawhide covered bent wood.
This particular type of saddle was considered a mans saddle, while the wooden frame saddles are women's.

And a fun saddle to take the occasional trial ride. It gets me some interesting looks. When I make period works and need to antique them, I often use "horse sweat" to do the job. I think the local horse community here thinks I am a bit off center at times :-)

Angela,
could you post the more images of this 'apishamore' saddle - from the front, back, and above. I would love to use them as reference material for a drawing or two.
thanks :)

HI Dario, I will try to get some photos taken of this for you and published in the near future. And I love the work you have been doing on your Blog site as well. :-)
